What is ArcGIS Mobile?

ArcGIS Mobile is the technology framework for deploying ArcGIS applications in the field. It includes an out-of-the-box, task-centric mobile application for GIS data collection, inspection, and mapping. ArcGIS Mobile projects provide a simple framework that makes it easy to configure and deploy applications that help novice users accomplish a number of field tasks without the need to learn GIS.

ArcGIS Mobile is included as part of ArcGIS Server.

GIS can be taken into the field using a range of mobile devices and solutions.

The ArcGIS Mobile application, mobile projects, and mobile map data are centrally managed and deployed using ArcGIS Server.

ArcGIS Mobile also includes a set of coarse-grained developer libraries for building custom mobile applications using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET. The ArcGIS Mobile SDK includes a set of developer components, documentation, and code samples that can be used to build focused applications that run on a range of devices (such as Windows Mobile Smartphone, Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Windows CE .NET, and Windows XP and Vista).

Why is ArcGIS Mobile important?

ArcGIS Mobile makes it easy for mobile workers to use GIS in the field. This ease of use is helping organizations to recognize the value of viewing, collecting, and updating information in the field using ArcGIS Mobile.

Mobile application users want applications that are intuitive, easy to use, and require little to no training. The ability to send and receive information updates in the field using wireless synchronization provides situational awareness of field operations and helps organizations to make better decisions.
